MikeLoop videos – artsy edition

Here come a few songs that I adapted for MikeLoop. There are no explanations, I sing the songs just as I would on stage, but you can take a look at the Ipad screen and understand what exactly I’m doing during my performances.

Many of these songs have been released on CD as a studio version. You can compare the MikeLoop version with the studio version on spotify if you like.

Don’t Touch My Animals

this song was released on my album Don’t Touch My Animals (ACT 2006). I adapted it for MikeLoop and I have performed it many times ever since.

You find the studio version here:

Apple Pie Queen

this song can also be found on Don’t Touch My Animals. I had the idea of singing a bassline and then transposing it with the Slower function, so I had to sing it at double speed to get to the right tempo. I then add a melody to accompany the bass and finally sing the actual melody with lyrics over it.

My Home Is My Tent

this song was released on My Home Is My Tent (Traumton 2010). I had the idea of creating chord progressions with Simple Loop by stacking endless notes over each other. I then sing 3 different bass lines in Matrix Loop and combine them with the chords. My Home Is My Tent is my trickiest adaptation so far. It’s hard to get the intonation and the timing right. But once it works it’s got a very nice flow to it, don’t you think?

Boys Don’t Cry

Boys Don’t Cry is a cover version of the famous The Cure song. I adapted it for MikeLoop and performed it many times – I think it’s the perfect encore!

Boys Don’t cry was released as a digital single (Traumton 2010).

and here is the studio version:

Spirits In A Material World (The Police)

this cover version of the famous Police song starts with a (vocal) click, similar to Apple Pie Queen, but then it goes to a completely different direction.

This one’s for loop nerds: I use the Mixdown function to move the beginning of the loop by one 8ths note at min 1:45

Just A Girl (No Doubt)

this cover version of Just A Girl sounds quite different from the original. I use Simple Loop to create chord progressions, starting with the bass notes and then stacking the chord notes on top. The sync function makes all Simple Loops the same lengths, that helps me to get the timing right.

when I started working with MikeLoop it occured to me that MikeLoop is the perfect tool to sing rounds. So I started composing my own rounds and practised them with MikeLoop. Here is a rather tricky example in 5/4. It’s not for beginners but if you are an experienced singer you can try it out yourself

Free Improvisation

in this video I sing a free improvisation and get creative with MikeLoop. There was no planning for this, I start with a melody with lots of reverb to get me in the mood and then see what happens next
